Embrew Tea Review
Embrew is one of my favorite small tea companies. They make lightly sweetened tea bags in a variety of flavors. A few weeks ago, I decided that I would do a blog post about the company for this week. Coincidentally, Embrew just launched new packaging and flavors a few days ago. Perfect timing, I guess.
I first tried Embrew when I won an Instagram giveaway from fellow tea blog Tea and Me. The giveaway included a package of their Creamy Honey Oolong tea bags (which I actually listed as the I would be most excited to try in my entry comment) along with a discount code to be used on the Embrew website. I received my giveaway package at the end of February, but I didn’t get a chance to try Creamy Honey Oolong for almost a month. I posted a picture on my Instagram, and the owner of the company sent me a Direct Message to let me know that she could extend expiration date for the code. I ultimately did need her to extend it, and she was so kind in helping me out. And when I finally received my order, she included a sweet note.
Today be reviewing three of the current flavors, plus one discontinued flavored that I hope comes back as a seasonal tea.
Bourbon Smoked White
Bourbon Smoked White might be my favorite Embrew tea. It contains both white and smoked black tea, my two favorite types of tea. The bourbon smoked sugar gives the blend a sweet a rich flavor. I’ve never had bourbon, but if it tastes anything like this tea, then I need to try it ASAP.
Lavender Chamomile Kick
Lavender and chamomile are two of my favorite calming herbs, so I was really excited for this blend. But the “kick” in Lavender Chamomile Kick comes from cayenne—and I don’t do spice. I under steeped this tea to reduce the intensity of the spice, which kind of worked. The lavender and chamomile were the strongest flavors, and there’s a hint of peppermint as well. Overall it’s a very nice tea, but the spice might not be for everyone.
Creamy Honey Oolong
I love Creamy Honey Oolong for cool fall mornings. It can be re-steeped up to three times, or it can be cold-brewed after the first steep. It tastes very creamy with a hint of honey flavor. I found that the oolong flavor comes out more in additional steeps.
I recently tried cold-brewing this tea, which made me realize that I had not even had very many iced oolong teas. I really enjoyed it, and would definitely cold-brew this tea, or another oolong, again. It had a light and refreshing flavor and it wasn’t quite as sweet.
Amber Maple Black
Amber Maple Black was discontinued to make room for new flavors, but I enjoyed it so much I wanted to mention it anyway. It tastes like a classic black tea with a hint of maple flavor. I decided to add a little maple syrup to really increase the maple flavor, and it was delicious. This was another tea that could be cold-brewed, and I’m disappointed that I didn’t end up trying it that way. I think maple flavors are perfect for fall, so I really hope Embrew considers making this a seasonal fall tea.
I truly enjoyed every single tea I have tried from Embrew, and can’t wait to purchase more. I highly recommend looking into their 5 Flavor Variety Pack, which makes it easy and inexpensive to try multiple different tea flavors—including their brand new flavors that I am excited to try.
