SECRET Dunkin' Matcha Drinks (Plus Avocado Toast Review)
Dunkin’ Donuts has come out with so many new items in the past few months. I am honestly very behind on reviewing them, but I’m finally getting to some of them now. Today I’m talking about two lesser known matcha drinks at Dunkin’—an iced matcha latte with cold foam and the brand new vanilla coconutmilk iced matcha latte. I’ll also be including a review of the avocado toast that I promised in my last Dunkin’ review and on Instagram.
Iced Matcha Latte with Cold Foam
When Dunkin’ came out with their sweet cold foam a few months ago, they said that it could be added to any iced beverage (except the refreshers), but I wasn’t sure how it would work if I tried to order it on an iced tea. Then I realized that there was option on the app to add the cold foam to an iced matcha latte, so I felt a lot more confident ordering it. I still decided to order in person because the app says you should pick it up within five minutes for the full foam experience. The cashier was a little confused, but honestly less than when I tried to order the iced blueberry matcha latte the day it came out.
The texture of the cold foam looked beautiful when I received my matcha latte, but a lot of it melted by the time I got back to my apartment and could actually try it. What was left was sweet and yummy with a hint of cinnamon. Honestly, it paired really well with the matcha (though that could also have been the regular milk in the latte—the cold foam contains dairy, so I didn’t bother getting a dairy-free milk). It actually kind of reminded me of the froth on a hot latte, which is honestly what I miss when I drink iced lattes. Really my only complaint about the matcha latte with sweet cold foam was that the new strawless lid leaked horribly and made a mess everywhere. If it wasn’t for that lid, I would definitely be ordering this drink again.
Vanilla Coconutmilk Iced Matcha Latte
So, Dunkin’ isn’t really advertising this matcha latte (or at least not yet). I don’t think its on the actual menu in Dunkin’ stores, and it’s not even under iced drinks on the app the way the iced blueberry matcha latte was (though that isn’t listed anymore either). I actually found it when looking through the “Coconutmilk Creations” section of the app.
This matcha latte had an overwhelmingly strong coconut flavor. I actually wonder if they added coconut syrup in addition to coconut milk. Meanwhile, I did not taste the vanilla flavor at all. I’m planning on eventually doing a post where I try all of Dunkin’s flavor shots and swirls in an iced matcha latte and I was hoping that this drink meant I won’t have to try the vanilla syrup later, but that’s definitely not the case. I was also thinking I would try the coconut syrup with coconutmilk, but now I’m thinking that will be too much coconut flavor for me. One benefit of the coconutmilk was that it was really creamy and smooth, and gave the latte a great texture.
Avocado Toast
Okay, so avocado toast isn’t tea related, but I really wanted to try it and so I figured I would just give it a review. First off, my avocado toast was not toast—it was basically just bread. A friend of mine didn’t have this experience though, so it might have just been the particular location I ordered from. I tried a little bit of the avocado by itself and it was salty, but when I tried it all together it was very lemony. There was a hint of garlic from the topping, but that was really the only other flavor. In my opinion, this avocado toast needed a bit more crunch, not just from the bread, but in the topping itself. I know Dunkin’ has more recently come out with a Bacon Topped Avocado Toast that may add that little bit of texture, but I don’t plan on trying it.
So, What’s the Tea?
Of these three items, the only one that I personally would reorder is the iced matcha latte with sweet cold foam. I would consider the avocado toast again if more people try it and tell me theirs were properly toasted. I personally won’t be ordering the vanilla coconutmilk matcha latte again, but if you like coconut flavors and don’t care too much about the vanilla, then you will like it (of course, you could just get a matcha latte with coconut milk and not pay extra for the vanilla syrup). As usual with Dunkin’ Donuts, these item are a mix of hits and misses.
