Review: Dunkin' Hot Teas

One of the most common inquiries that brings people to Tea & Things is “Does Dunkin’ Donuts have tea?” The answer is yes, they do. I have done reviews on their iced tea, matcha lattes, and even their refreshers that are made with green tea. I actually reviewed their hot teas over a year ago, but I skipped a few—not to mentioned didn’t give very good descriptions. So today I’m aiming to fix that.

Black Tea

I have to admit, I haven’t had Dunkin’s black tea in a long time. I used to drink it all the time, and it tasted like the other black tea bags I would drink from grocery store brands. That is to say, not the best tea comparatively—but fine for a tea from a coffee chain, especially if you’re new to tea. The same goes for the decaf black tea.

Green Tea

So, I know I’ve had Dunkin’s green tea before, but I don’t remember any specifics. I’ve been meaning to try it again, but I just can’t justify going and spending money on tea that I’m probably not going to like when I have so much tea at home. I don’t mean that as shade either, I’m just not a big fan of green tea. To be honest though, what I do remember is that it was just a basic green tea bag that was a little bitter.

Mint Tea

Dunkin’s mint tea tastes like a typical mint tea, but it’s pretty good. Mint is not actually a flavor, it is a cooling sensation on the tongue. This drink is no exception—it basically tastes like tingly hot water, but it’s better than it sounds. I would recommend it if you are looking for a caffeine-free drink to perk you up or a hot drink on a warm day.

Hibiscus Tea

This tea is very tart, and honestly tastes a bit like cough syrup. It does, however, get seem to get sweeter as you drink it and get used to the flavor. I think it would taste better with sweetener, as most hibiscus teas do. Most hibiscus teas also taste better iced, so I’m honestly not sure why Dunkin’ makes it hot and not iced. They did have a hibiscus iced tea as a seasonal drink one summer, and the sample I tried was pretty sweet and significantly better than the hot tea.

Chamomile Tea

Once again, this tastes like a typical Chamomile Tea. It is a bit bitter at first, but it becomes sweeter and more fruity and floral as it steeps. I can also say that it is very relaxing, as chamomile is supposed to be, because I fell into a nap before finishing this drink.

So, What’s the Tea?

Overall, the hot tea options at Dunkin’ are pretty basic and nothing special. They are not bad options, especially if you’re a new tea drinker looking to get something at Dunkin, but they’re not the best quality tea either. Honestly, I would recommend the iced teas and even matcha lattes if you like them over the basic hot teas, though these are more expensive.
