Trying DAVIDsTEA Tea-Infused Holiday Recipes
In my opinion, DAVIDsTEA really shines as a company during the winter holiday season. They have a wide range of Christmas teas, with new flavors and returning favorites released each year. In addition to putting these teas into beautiful advent calendars, DavidsTea always creates new tea-infused recipes for the season. Today, I’m showing you my attempts at three of these tea-infused holiday recipes.
Sleigh Ride Upside Down Cakes
Sleigh Ride is my family’s favorite holiday tea, so I thought these upside down cakes would be a good idea. Maybe it’s because my mom helped me make this recipe, but it was fairly easy to follow. Sometimes DAVIDsTEA’s recipes are unclear or hard to follow, but this one was well-written and easily understood. My only critique is if that they should listed the ingredients for the topping first instead of last since you make the topping first.
Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the batter, but it was a slightly weird and unappetizing-looking color, which made me worried that I messed up the recipe or that it wouldn’t taste good. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case at all! These tasted amazing—sweet and fruity with a hint of flavor from the tea. I enjoyed them both on their own and topped with vanilla ice cream. My little brother, the main Sleigh Ride fan in the family, liked them so much he ate the leftovers for breakfast the next morning. I will probably be making this recipe again this holiday season, and this is one DavidsTea recipe that I highly recommend trying.
Danish Pancake Puffs with White Cranberry Bark Sauce
A few years ago, my younger sister tried White Cranberry Bark in a DAVIDsTEA store (before they closed all US locations), convinced our mom to buy fours ounces of it, then decided she didn’t like it anymore. I do like this tea, but the thought of drinking four ounces of it overwhelmed me. So I looked on the DavidsTea blog and found this recipe for Danish Pancake Puffs with White Cranberry Bark Sauce.
Even with help from my mom, this recipe was harder to make. As usual for DAVIDsTEA, the ingredients were out of order., making it harder to follow. Danish Pancake Puffs are also not an easy food to make in general. They ended up not being very fluffy and tasting almost exactly like regular pancakes. The sauce was much easier to make and did taste good, but I spilled some of the cornstarch mixture while trying to pour it into the pot with tea which prevented it from getting as thick as it should have been. Overall, I would consider making the sauce again, but I would put it over regular pancakes or even ice cream instead of the pancake puffs. I would only recommend making the pancake puffs if you are a skilled baker.
Sleigh Ride Poached Pears
I don’t know why DavidsTea always puts their ingredient list out of order, put at least there are only five ingredients in this recipe for Sleigh Ride Poached Pears. The recipe is really simple to make—the hardest part is waiting around while the pears poach.
The final product tastes pretty good as well. The tea adds some sweet and cinnamon-y flavors to the pears. I ate one pear and my grandparents split another, then I saved the rest of the slices in the fridge and enjoyed them over the next few days. They are definitely better hot and fresh, but still taste good cold. I think they were even a bit more juicy after having all that time to settle. I wouldn’t say this is a must-try recipe, but it’s definitely a fun and yummy dessert for the holidays.
Whether you’re looking for dessert or breakfast recipes this holiday season or trying to find a use for all the holiday tea you bought, consider trying one of these (or one of DAVIDsTEA’s many other) tea-infused recipes. Happy holidays!
