Peet's Coffee Iced Teas
I have to be honest: This was supposed to be a post about Peet’s Coffee iced teas and tea fogs, and it was supposed to be posted back in March. Unfortunately, I still had two more tea fogs to try when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and NYU sent all their students home. There are no Peet’s locations in New Jersey—in fact I had never heard of Peet’s until I found out there was one in our student center—so there was no way for me to finish the post.
But I guess it all turned out okay because Peet’s discontinued their tea fogs and replaced them with tea shakers. Hopefully, I can go back to the city next semester and review all the flavors of these new shakers. Until then, here is my review of their three iced teas.
Iced Summer Solstice
The Iced Summer Solstice is the regular iced black tea at Peet’s Coffee. That honestly sums up the flavor of this drink. It’s a typical iced tea—not bad but nothing special. It is not bitter, even when ordered unsweetened, which is always a plus since I find many coffee shops make a pretty bitter iced tea. Does anyone else find that coffee shops that make bitter coffee (reportedly, since I don’t drink coffee) also make bitter iced tea? I actually have no idea how bitter the coffee at Peet’s is, but if this tea is any indication, it probably isn’t at all.
Iced Green Tea Tropical
Peet’s Coffee makes a pretty good iced green tea. It’s not too bitter or grassy, as many green teas are, and is lightly sweet. I’m not sure if they gave me my drink sweetened when I ordered (I didn’t specify) or if the tropical fruit notes gave it some sweetness, but I enjoyed it either way. I should note though that other than the possible sweetness, I didn’t taste any of those supposed tropical fruit flavors. I didn’t miss those flavors, but if you like a fruity iced tea then this probably isn’t the drink for you.
Iced Wild Berry Hibiscus Tea
Like most hibiscus teas, the Iced Hibiscus Tea at Peet’s is sweet and a little tart. I find that most hibiscus teas taste better sweetened, but for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to add honey to my iced tea. When that inevitably didn’t work, I decided to have my drink without the sweetener, and it tasted fine. I would say it is naturally on the sweeter side for hibiscus tea. However, like the iced green tea, I didn’t taste any of the other fruit flavors that the website claims are in the iced tea.
While Peet’s Coffee doesn’t make the best iced tea in the world, they do have a few options that are all pretty good. Each iced tea is used in two different Tea Shakers, and the flavors of those all sound amazing so I am really hoping I get a chance to try them.
