REVIEW: Dunkin' New Strawberry Popping Bubbles

Dunkin’ Donuts recently came out with a new semi-tea-related menu addition: strawberry popping bubbles. Though I’ve never had popping bubbles in my boba tea drinks, I was still excited to try these in a variety of drinks. Unfortunately, there seems to be a shortage of Dunkin’ Refreshers, so I wasn’t able to try the popping bubbles in them yet. I have seen people try them in iced coffee, the new lemonade, and even the blue raspberry Coolata, but I haven’t been that adventurous yet. Even though I’ve only tried them in a few drinks, here is my review of them so far.

Iced Green Tea with Strawberry Popping Bubbles

Green tea is never my favorite, but I did enjoy the slight strawberry flavor the popping bubbles gave the drink. The bubbles themselves were slightly artificial tasting, but it wasn’t overwhelming. I mobile ordered this drink and then ended up taking forever to get to the store, so I wasn’t sure if the bubbles were the normal texture or if they had “melted” a little because it was a little weird. I also had a hard time getting the bubbles to come up the straw. They were very juicy though, and I was definitely intrigued enough to give them a try in another drink.

Iced Matcha Latte with Strawberry Popping Bubbles

I actually really enjoy Dunkin’s matcha lattes, and once again the slight strawberry flavor was a nice addition. This time, the texture of the bubbles was a little firmer, and they even seemed less artificial tasting. The only problem was that all the ice made the bubbles kind of hard to drink. I would definitely order this drink again, but with light ice.

The Straw

Dunkin’ is making kind of a big deal about their new straw for drinks with the strawberry popping bubbles. I am not a fan of paper straws, which this is. The bigger straw makes it a little better, but it still became a little messed up in the middle and therefore not the easiest to drink out of. I did have some difficulty getting the popping bubbles up the straw, but I think that had to do more with the texture/ice than the straw. I think I would prefer to get a reusable boba straw if I am going to get drinks with bubbles regularly.

So, What’s The Tea?

Overall, Dunkin’s new strawberry popping bubbles are pretty good and definitely a fun addition to the menu. I don’t know that I’ll be getting them regularly, but I do enjoy them and would like to try them in a few more drinks. I definitely recommend giving them a try if you are looking for a simple but different twist on your favorite (or a new) Dunkin’ drink. And maybe try them soon, because I’m predicting that Dunkin’ releases regular tapioca-based boba next.
